Bargello Fountain and Palazzo
Audioguide (19) This is a characteristic and well-preserved 14th c. Gubbio building. According to tradition - undocumented however - it used to be the residence of the “Bargello” (the magistrate in charge of the city police). On the square in front of the house one can see the 16th century fountain of the same name, rebuilt in the last two centuries. It is also called "la fontana dei matti" ("the fountain of the madmen"): anyone who runs three times round it receives the symbolic diploma of "matto di Gubbio" ("madman of Gubbio") after being "baptized" by its water.
