It was built immediately after the death of the Seraphic on the properties of his friends Spadalonga from which he fled, escaping of Assisi after renouncing his father's possessions, had already officiated in 1256.
The interior underwent two transformations, the last in sec. XVIII.
Between the years 1926 - 1938, restored in the original style of the apse, did resurface important frescoes of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. The adjoining convent, with fascinating architectural angles, houses a rich collection of art.
